the hunter's focus on his prey reduces the totality of the world into the background. there lies the world which contains us, complete, whole, all - but ignored; we have assumed a higher priority, our individual survival.

as long as our focus stays on survival, it will remain narrow as a spotlight, and keep the world around it indistinct.
